Up and Running

Painters 5K

I had a wonderful weekend. I went to St. George with friends (Stacy S., Teresa O., and Missy N.) to run. I've had a sore hip, so I just ran the 5K, but my friends ran the 1/2. I felt great and had a good run. I was proud of myself. I think I ran my fastest 5K ever (24:18) and took 3rd place in my age division. After my race I ran backwards on the 1/2 marathon route to run my friends in. I had a great time. They are strong inspiring women. I'm so lucky to know them. We stayed at my friend Missy's beautiful condo, got in the hot tub, sat in the sun, and I ate a ton of crap. I really enjoyed myself. Thanks girls.

Here is my little medal. Corbin's been making fun of my "old lady" medal.....Whatever! I'd like to see him do it.

History

Humble, Grateful, and Mindful.

Photobucket

Today, Corbin and I watched the 44th President of the United States take his oath of office. It indeed was a moment to behold. I felt pride for my nation that so many took part in this momentous event. It was nice to see so many people care for a change. A change, will there be change? There has to be. In the beginning of the speech he said that he felt humble, grateful, and mindful. I felt good about that. They are all qualities that must be present in a great leader. Now if our nations people could be the same...that would be change. I also feel humble, grateful, and mindful these days.

I also felt sadness for President Bush who left today. I feel so many have been blatantly disrespectful to him in his last days, and yet he left with such dignity. I certainly hope that history has more respect for him then the citizens he's served. As he flew away I thought, "I hope he sleeps in tomorrow, and does the things he enjoys."

ABC news reported that 1,400,000 people were present on the nations mall to watch the inauguration. In 2005 there were 400,000 there for President Bush's. If nothing else, President Obama has the ear of the nation at this time. He'd better speak out quickly because as every president knows our nation is a fickle one, and our opinions change as quickly as the White House Web Page.

I saw pictures of President Bush on his first day of office and then one of his last. You could see how much the demands, and stress of the Presidency had aged him. President Obama looked so relaxed and young today. It will be interesting to see him in 4 or 8 years. It's a tough job, and I as a citizen of this nation wish him all the best....after all, all our lives are in his hands.

The link for the age test.

http://www.realage.com/ralong/entry4b.aspx

Sorry I forgot the link....Hope you are all young. :)

Good News...I'm only 36 years old

Bad news.....There aren't many ways I can get younger...

So, I took the Dr. Oz Age Test from the Oprah web site, and as I said my biological age is 36. That's cool because I'm 39.7 years old...Heck yey I'll take that. They told me the things that make me younger (no big suprises there.)

I don't smoke, and never have
I don't drink, and never have
I'm happily married...better be I work hard at it.
I get enough sleep....I could always use more
I have good oral hygiene....Smile :)
I drive cellphone free most of the time
I eat my fruit and veggies
I stretch and try to increase my flexibility

Now ways I can get younger...

Get a DOG? Umm, not. I have a husband and 3 kids (what cleaning up more poop and vomit, and screaming about more messes is gonna take years off my life.....are they high?)

Eat less red meat....Wanna make me?

Eat more fish....Fine! Whatever, but red meat is cheaper!

Eat more grains....NO! They just make me fat....What! They do!

Take supplements.....What!? They want me to take pills? I eat all my dark leafy greens! Fine! I'll do it....But, I think it's stupid

Tone down your workouts.....Wanna make me? NO! Kicking my butt makes me happy and takes stress away....Did I happen to mention I have 3 teenagers?

Keep an eye on your blood pressure because it's very low......Ummm, the last time I checked that was good. Stupid Dr. Oz, do you remember I am in the extremely fit for my age category...not that I'm bragging....Ok, I am. :) What! It was hard work!

Well, maybe I can get a little younger, but not much, but I'm happy the way I am anyhow. Go take the test and let me know your age.

Fish are Friends....NOT FOOD!

McGrath's Fish House for Corbin's Birthday.

Chantel kept telling us, "Fish are friends, not food." She was eating a hamburger. The rest of us had seafood. She also had this seafood joke for us. "So, the last time I was at Sea World I was thinking, why do they have seafood restaurants at Sea World? Then I looked at my fish sandwich and thought, This fish could have been a slow learner." She's a funny one.

This was the first chance we had to celebrate Corbin's birthday as a family (Challis had to work), and as a tradition we eat out at the birthday persons choice of restaurant. Corbin loves clam chowder, but I always wonder why he chooses McGrath's for his birthday. He hates when they come and make you wear the fish on your head, or maybe he really likes it and he's faking it.....

Today was a proud moment for us. Challis went to his first classes at Weber St. University. We are really proud of him. He is a really hard worker, and I know he'll do well. When I go into Smiths his coworkers and superiors always tell me how much they appreciate what a good worker he is. Good luck at school Challis. We all love you so much.

A shout out for my favorite blog

If you've never looked at my "cool blogs" list on my side bar...Ya should. One of my favorite blogs is The Picky Palate. I just love looking at the food. I do make things now and then too, but the food photography is amazing. Anyhow, she is competing on the food network, Jan 8th in the dessert category. If you're a foodie like me, you may enjoy this blog. I can't wait to see if she wins.

On an opposite wave length I'll be watching Oprah on Monday. I'm really not a huge Oprah fan, but I think this one may be worth watching. I think everyone needs to look back and see where they've gone wrong and make changes for their "best life".

Party like it's 2009

Party at the Saddlers!

We had a wonderful time at the Saddlers New Years Eve Party. We ate way, way to much, played games, and laughed our butts off. The Saddlers put together a fun bunch of people. So, our New Year started off great. I think it's going to be one heck of a year. Thanks Brenda and Steve.
